Public GIS Map Viewer: Measuring Distances

You can measure distances between any two points, or between a series of points, on the map.

Measuring can be performed at any zoom level, but for best results you should first zoom to the desired area. The closer you zoom in, the easier it will be to get more accurate results. Measures are shown to the nearest foot.

Once you have zoomed to the desired area, click the Measure tool to enter Measure mode. A pop-up help message will appear; click OK to continue.

Once in measure mode, click the desired starting point on the map, then move the mouse pointer to the end point of what you want to measure. A red line will be drawn as you move the mouse, connecting the starting point with the present mouse position. Also, a red information box will appear showing the length of the current segment being drawn as well as the total of all segments currently displayed.

You can draw multiple segments while in measure mode. Once you have clicked an end point, simply move your mouse to another end point and click it again. This can be repeated as many times as desired. Each segment drawn will have its measure in feet indicated at the segment's midpoint.

To exit measure mode, simply right-click your mouse (or double-click it).
